A €19.25 menu, 15 ice-cream parlours and 28 small dishes: this is how Barcelona eats in September
September arrives in Barcelona with a succession of gastronomic plans lasting only a few days: a 19.25-euro anniversary menu, a drinking competition with porró, three routes through 15 ice-cream parlours, a harvest within the municipal boundary itself and a La Mercè fair with 28 dishes at five euros. For several of them, it is advisable to book or choose a date in advance.
The first will arrive this Thursday the 10th in Horta. From 19:00, Bodega Massana will hold the tenth edition of its Concurso de beure en porró, part of the neighbourhood's Festa Major. Participation is individual, attendees must wear a white T-shirt and two prizes will be awarded: one to whoever finishes the porró fastest without stopping and another to whoever shows the most style and creativity.
That same day, Mundial Bar, in plaça de Sant Agustí Vell, begins a promotion linked to its 101 years of history and the first anniversary of its reopening. Until 22 September, it will offer only 101 tables for its Menú 1925 for 19.25 euros, compared with a usual value of around 33. It includes clams in green sauce, Cal Rovira tomato salad, chickpeas with spinach, cod and black butifarra sausage, as well as homemade flan and bread.
From 15 to 20 September, it will be the turn of the first Spanish Gelato Week. Barcelona has 15 of the 35 participating ice-cream parlours and divides them into three routes of five venues: Gràcia-Diagonal-Verdaguer, Esquerra de l'Eixample-Sants and Ciutat Vella-Poblenou. The 12-euro ticket allows five ice creams of up to two flavours in a tub; the 16-euro ticket allows up to three flavours in a cone or tub. It is not necessary to complete the route in a single day.
On Wednesday the 16th, Melós at Mallorca, 303 will bring together Miquel Pardo, Rafa Peña and Biel Gavaldà. The three worked together in the kitchens of Hostal Empúries in 2013 and will now revive some of those flavours in a special six-hands menu, with produce from the fish markets of l'Escala and Llançà. The price is 190 euros per person, drinks not included, although bookings through TheFork were already shown as unavailable when checked.
Collserola will have its own event on Sunday the 20th. Can Calopa will hold its Harvest Festival from 10:30 to 16:30, with a circuit of tests among vineyards, gastronomy, games and music. Admission costs 25 euros for adults and 15 for children, with an adult-and-child package for 35.50 euros. The estate is within the municipality of Barcelona, on the BV-1468 road.
On the last weekend of the month, from the 25th to the 27th, paseo dels Til·lers in Parc de la Ciutadella will host the sixth edition of Terra i Gust, as part of La Mercè. Fourteen restaurants will serve 28 small dishes made with organic, seasonal and locally sourced produce; half will be vegetarian and each dish will cost five euros. Admission to the venue is free, and there will also be craft beer, natural wine, local producers, workshops, cooking demonstrations and music.
The schedule therefore has several dates that are especially concentrated between 10 and 27 September. For plans with limited places — Mundial Bar, Gelato Week, Can Calopa and experiences requiring a booking — availability may change before the day arrives.
