Shakira, Aitana and La Oreja de Van Gogh headline a September of major concerts
September concentrates some of Madrid’s biggest music events of the year. Aitana will perform four nights at Movistar Arena, Shakira will launch a twelve-concert residency with six dates this month, and La Oreja de Van Gogh will return to the capital with Amaia Montero. They are joined by Leiva, The Black Keys, Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso, Soda Stereo and several festivals.
The first major run will arrive at the Movistar Arena. Leiva will perform on 8 and 9 September and return to the same venue on the 29th and 30th to close his Tour Gigante. Just two days after those first dates, Aitana’s Madrid run will begin: she will sing on 11, 12, 14 and 15 September as part of her Cuarto Azul World Tour.
Between those four nights there will be another unusual date. The Black Keys will play at the Movistar Arena on Sunday the 13th, their only announced date in Spain and sixteen years after their previous visit to Madrid. The concert will begin at 21:00.
The calendar changes scale from 18 September onwards. Shakira will open her Madrid residency for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour in Villaverde, for which a temporary venue has been built within Iberdrola Music with capacity for more than 50,000 spectators.
The singer will perform there on 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 September. The residency will continue in October with another six nights —2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11—, making a total of twelve concerts in Madrid. The expected audience numbers will make the Villaverde area one of the main hubs of leisure-related movement for several weeks.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th will be especially intense. In addition to Shakira, Caja Mágica will host Brava Madrid, with names such as Sugababes, Natalie Imbruglia and Fangoria, while Jardín de las Delicias will return to the Cantarranas venue at Universidad Complutense with Dani Martín and Viva Suecia among its leading artists.
The Movistar Arena will regain the spotlight immediately afterwards. La Oreja de Van Gogh will arrive on 22 and 23 September with its Tantas cosas que contar tour and Amaia Montero once again as vocalist. The concerts will start at 20:30, with doors expected to open at 19:00.
A day later, on 24 September, Soda Stereo will bring its Ecos show to Madrid. Charly Alberti and Zeta Bosio will share the stage with a technological recreation of Gustavo Cerati in a production that the organisers present as a theatrical continuation of the group and not as a tribute band.
The schedule is not limited to large arenas and stadiums. September also includes concerts in venues such as El Sol, La Riviera, Copérnico, Villanos, Moby Dick and Wagon, as well as acts such as Ca7riel y Paco Amoroso on the 17th at the Movistar Arena. For much of Madrid’s live music scene, the month marks the start of a particularly packed season after the summer festival calendar.
