Shakira will transform Villaverde with twelve concerts and Macondo Park
Madrid will experience an autumn marked by Shakira's European residency. Between 18 September and 11 October, the artist will give twelve concerts at Iberdrola Music, where she will also open Macondo Park, a large themed space dedicated to Latin American culture that will accompany each day of performances.
The venue will begin to take shape during August and will remain operational throughout the residency. In addition to the main stage, attendees will find a route featuring experiences related to music, gastronomy, literature, cinema, fashion, art, and the singer’s creative universe.
The performances will take place on 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27 September, as well as 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 October. The organisers expect around 50,000 people per concert, which could bring together nearly 600,000 visitors over the course of the residency.
The project, designed by the BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group studio, features a route with vegetation, vibrant colours, and various interconnected pavilions. The inspiration comes from magical realism and the Latin American cultural identity that has accompanied Shakira’s artistic career.
The arrival of thousands of people each night will also have consequences for mobility in Villaverde and the surrounding area. Traffic restrictions are expected, along with increased demand for public transport and more activity in the area during concert afternoons and evenings, especially at weekends.
The venue doors will open from midday to stagger the arrival of attendees, while the concerts will begin in the evening. The organisers state that the schedule and timings have been designed to make it easier for the public to enter and leave in stages.
Another new feature will be Macondito, a space designed for children. On weekdays, when there are no concerts, it will be open to school visits with activities related to Latin American culture and creativity.
The residency is one of the largest musical events held in Madrid in recent years. For almost a month, Villaverde will host concerts, cultural activities, and thousands of visitors, becoming one of the main leisure hotspots in the capital at the start of autumn.
