Barcelona supermarkets adjust opening times for Easter Week 2026
Easter Week 2026 changes the usual operation of supermarkets in Barcelona. The Good Friday and Easter Monday public holidays will mean most large chains close, making it necessary to plan shopping in advance.
Companies such as Mercadona, Alcampo, Aldi, Lidl, Hipercor and Bonpreu will keep their shops closed on these days, as well as on Sunday. The preceding Saturday will operate normally, making it the key day to stock up.
Some chains will offer alternatives with reduced opening hours. Dia will open at certain locations, especially in tourist areas, although for limited periods. Consum will close its usual supermarkets, but will keep Charter establishments operating during the public holidays.
Other options include Ametller Origen, which will open on Sunday morning, and BonÀrea, with a morning service. Caprabo, meanwhile, will keep some central shops open even on public holidays.
Commercial activity will return to normal on Tuesday, when all supermarkets resume their usual hours. Even so, it is recommended to check each establishment before travelling there.
In a city where the pace changes during these dates, organising shopping becomes key to avoiding unforeseen problems and adapting to days when Barcelona operates differently.
