Badalona’s homelessness crisis worsens after new evictions
The situation of homeless people in Badalona is worsening following new evictions that have left dozens of residents without housing alternatives. The intervention beneath the C-31 bridge has displaced around 30 people, many of them from the former B-9 secondary school, who now sleep on the street or have dispersed to different parts of the municipality.
The social response has been swift. More than 50 organisations have presented the manifesto We Have a Dream. A Fair and Dignified Badalona, calling for urgent measures to address an emergency which, they say, continues to receive an inadequate institutional response.
Among the proposals are strengthening social services, expanding public housing and reopening the municipal shelter at Can Bofí Vell. They also call for making it easier for people without a home to register as residents and for improving coordination between administrations.
The City Council has acknowledged that it does not have a specific protocol to assist people living on the streets, intensifying concern among groups and residents. Meanwhile, political pressure is increasing and the opposition is demanding immediate solutions to a situation that continues to deteriorate.
The case reopens the debate on access to housing and the management of homelessness in the Barcelona metropolitan area, in a context where the lack of resources and alternatives continues to shape the lives of the most vulnerable people.
