TMB opens its own shop at Sagrada Família with products inspired by the metro and bus
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona has taken another step in building its brand identity with the opening of its first official merchandising shop. The new space was inaugurated on 15 December at one of the busiest points in the network: the interchange for lines 2 and 5 at Sagrada Família station.
The shop offers a selection of products linked to the imagery of Barcelona’s public transport. T-shirts, tote bags, notebooks, mugs, bottles and magnets feature icons as recognisable as the metro’s M, the bus’s B, the network map, the underground lines and emblematic services such as the Telefèric and the Barcelona Bus Turístic. In total, 2,560 units have been produced across several themed collections.
TMB’s president and first deputy mayor, Laia Bonet, has said that this is «a first space with the potential to grow» and has confirmed that the company is already considering opening a second shop elsewhere on the network. It would not be the first time TMB has explored this format: in the 1980s and 1990s there was already a similar establishment at Universitat station, combining a shop and exhibition room.
The concession for the premises was recently put out to tender with an initial budget of €1.95 million for the first three years, extendable to five, which raises the contract’s total value to €3.63 million. With this initiative, TMB seeks to strengthen its link with the public and turn its transport networks into an element also present beyond the platforms.
