Every week, outside Madrid’s Royal Palace, royal guards dressed in historical uniforms change guard to the sound of drums and flutes, turning the square into a living stage for history.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays, at the palace gates, you can witness the colourful changing of the guard: guards dressed in early 20th-century ceremonial uniforms march to the sound of drums and flutes, creating the impression of a living historical scene.
Once a month, on the first Wednesday, the solemn changing of the guard takes place at the palace, an almost hour-long parade of the mounted guard, riflemen and artillerymen. The ceremony impresses with its scale and beauty, as if transporting spectators to the era of the Spanish kings.
