Having a drink in Madrid or Barcelona costs less than in most major cities around the world
An international report reveals that drinking wine, beer or coffee is much cheaper in Spanish capitals than in other major cities such as New York or Zurich.
Going out for a drink in Madrid or Barcelona is not only a deeply rooted custom; it is also surprisingly affordable. This is confirmed by a recent Deutsche Bank study comparing the prices of everyday products in 69 cities around the world.
According to the report, enjoying a domestic beer in either of the two capitals costs around 1.20 euros, well below the more than 4 euros paid in cities such as Sydney or Zurich. A cappuccino also remains moderately priced: around €2.40 in Barcelona and €2.67 in Madrid, compared with almost €6 in Zurich or more than €5 in New York.
Wine is not far behind either: a mid-range bottle costs around €6, while in destinations such as Singapore, Oslo or Jakarta it can exceed €17. Although restaurant prices in Spain have risen notably in the last five years, Madrid and Barcelona continue to stand out for offering a quality gastronomic experience without making your wallet tremble.
