Buses resume service in the Sierra Oeste, but three routes remain suspended
Transport is starting to recover in the Sierra Oeste de Madrid after several days disrupted by wildfires. Most affected intercity lines are running again, although routes 640, 640A and 645 are still suspended, making travel between some towns difficult.
Routes 541, 547, 548, 551, 655 and 669A have returned to their usual operation. With this reopening, connections in towns such as Villamanta, Pelayos de la Presa, Navas del Rey, Cadalso de los Vidrios and Cenicientos are improving again.
In Navalagamella, routes 642 and 669A are also running again. The resumption makes it possible to resume everyday journeys to workplaces, shops, medical appointments and other services after the restrictions caused by the spread of the fire.
The situation remains more complicated for users of routes 640, 640A and 645, which are still not operating. These suspensions particularly affect connections between several towns in the west of the region, other municipalities and Madrid’s main transport interchanges.
Restrictions also remain on routes crossing into the province of Ávila. Route 545 is running, but does not complete its journey to Sotillo de la Adrada, while route 546 does not currently reach Casillas either.
The restoration of each journey depends on the state of the roads, safety in the affected areas and the progress of emergency work. For this reason, service conditions may change throughout the day.
Interurban buses are essential in an area where many municipalities have no rail connection. The suspension of a single route can make people use their car, depend on relatives or postpone essential journeys.
The reopening of most routes brings Sierra Oeste closer to normality, although transport has not yet fully recovered. Before setting off, it is advisable to check the status of routes 640, 640A, 645, 545 and 546, especially for journeys between Madrid and municipalities near Ávila.
