Trànsit, Mossos and local police launch a police campaign to monitor cyclist and e-scooter offences

Throughout the week, the Mossos d’Esquadra and local police forces will step up checks in municipalities, on roads and in urban areas.

Surveillance will focus on distractions at the handlebars, dangerous manoeuvres, improper parking and compulsory helmet use. Conduct such as running red lights or ignoring traffic signs will also be sanctioned. But attention will not be focused only on cyclists and scooter riders: action will also be taken against drivers who compromise their safety.

In the case of personal mobility vehicles, Trànsit recalls that they must comply with the same rules as other vehicles: it is prohibited to travel on through roads, in tunnels or on interurban roads, as well as to use a mobile phone, wear headphones or travel with a passenger. In addition, the speed limit is 25 km/h and, in conditions of low visibility, it is compulsory to use lights and reflective elements.

In the last campaign, almost 400 fines were imposed on cyclists and more than 1,100 on electric scooters, most for travelling on the pavement. The initiative seeks to improve coexistence in public space and reduce accidents.
