A lorry partially overturns on the A-6 and gridlocks traffic in Las Rozas
An articulated lorry partially overturned this Thursday on the A-6 near Las Rozas, injuring its driver and complicating traffic in both directions. The accident occurred during rush hour and caused queues of up to two kilometres.
The accident occurred at kilometre 22, on the outbound side of Madrid. The vehicle was left partially across the service road, which had to be closed while emergency services worked.
The driver, a 52-year-old man and the truck’s sole occupant, was trapped from the waist down by the steering wheel. Firefighters from the Community of Madrid first secured the vehicle before beginning work to free him.
Once rescued, he was treated and stabilised at the scene by Summa 112 medical staff. He was then transferred to Hospital Puerta de Hierro de Majadahonda with multiple injuries, although an initial assessment found no apparent fractures.
The truck did not suffer significant damage to its body and there was no spill of the load, which made safety work easier. The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation to determine how the accident occurred.
The consequences have been felt both outbound and in the direction of Madrid. Reduced capacity and the presence of emergency teams have slowed traffic on one of the sections most used by residents in the north-west of the region.
The A-6 connects the capital with municipalities such as Las Rozas, Majadahonda, Torrelodones and Collado Villalba, so any incident quickly results in long queues. Drivers who need to pass through the area in the coming hours will have to allow extra time and check traffic conditions before setting off.
