Collision between a van and a lorry leaves one dead on the M-45
A 44-year-old man died last Tuesday in a traffic accident on the M-45 near San Fernando de Henares. The van he was driving rear-ended a lorry at kilometre 31 of the road.
The incident occurred at around 14:20. After the impact, the driver was trapped inside the van, making it necessary to mobilise emergency services to this point in the Henares corridor.
SUMMA 112 medical staff dispatched to the scene assessed the victim’s condition, but could only confirm his death. The man had suffered injuries incompatible with life as a result of the collision.
Firefighters from the Community of Madrid attended with two crews to remove the body from inside the vehicle. The operation was carried out after receiving the relevant authorisation from the Guardia Civil.
Officers have taken charge of the investigation to determine the circumstances that caused the van to collide with the rear of the lorry. For the time being, neither the specific causes of the accident nor the existence of other injured people has been reported.
The incident also affected traffic on a road used daily to connect the east and south of the region and access the Henares corridor. An accident on this stretch can quickly cause tailbacks and disrupt the journeys of people entering or leaving Madrid through this area.
The investigation must now clarify what happened in the moments before the impact. The accident leaves another fatality on Madrid’s roads and once again draws attention to an M-45 where cars, vans and a high volume of heavy traffic coexist every day.
