Barceloneta will gain a new 500-metre neighbourhood space on Joan de Borbó, with works until 2027

The City Council is promoting the refurbishment of a premises on Passeig Joan de Borbó. More than 500 square metres for associations and workshops. The works will be completed in 2027. The project strengthens community life in Barceloneta.

Barceloneta is gaining a new space designed for those who live in and actively participate in the neighbourhood. Barcelona City Council has decided to invest 1.7 million euros in refurbishing premises at number 44 Passeig Joan de Borbó, which will become a meeting point for organisations and groups in the area. The intervention responds to the need to provide the neighbourhood with infrastructure that strengthens its social fabric and facilitates community activities.

The premises, which will occupy three floors of a recently refurbished building, will offer more than 500 square metres distributed among multipurpose rooms, workshops, offices and storage rooms. The ground floor will have a communal area, an open workshop and a multipurpose room; the basement will house the storeroom and plant room, while two additional rooms will be provided in the mezzanine. The design seeks to adapt to the changing needs of organisations, with flexible and accessible spaces.

The works will begin with the demolition of floor slabs to restore the ground floor's original double height, allowing greater light and spaciousness. In addition, partitions, ceilings, flooring and finishes will be renewed, and the façade joinery will be improved to optimise energy efficiency. The project also includes improvements to thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as the upgrading of all installations to ensure comfort and sustainability.

The municipal forecast is for the refurbishment to be completed in the first quarter of 2027. These premises are part of the Llar Barceloneta project, which has involved the comprehensive rehabilitation of the building to create 18 social and affordable rental homes, some of them intended for vulnerable residents of the neighbourhood. The City Council transferred the property to Fundación Salas and Fundación Hàbitat3, responsible for the rehabilitation and management of the homes, which have already been handed over to their new tenants.

The Llar Barceloneta project represents a commitment to social housing and the revitalisation of community spaces in one of the city's most emblematic neighbourhoods. Collaboration between the City Council and organisations such as Fundación Salas and Fundación Hàbitat3 has made it possible to recover a historic building and adapt it to current needs.
