Free culture in Madrid: theatre, poetry and concerts come to neighbourhoods this weekend
Culture comes closer to everyday life in Madrid with the arrival of the En los márgenes: Festival Teatro a Pie de Barrio festival, a free proposal that turns different districts into open stages.
During the weekend, streets and cultural centres become meeting points where theatre, poetry and music are integrated into the neighbourhood's usual spaces. The initiative seeks to decentralise the cultural offering and bring it closer to those who live outside the traditional city-centre circuit.
On Friday, avenida de Rafaela Ybarra hosts Cabinas literarias, a sound experience with texts by authors such as Federico García Lorca, Gloria Fuertes and Emily Dickinson. Later, the Centro Sociocultural Santa Petronila presents a recital combining poetry and live music.
On Saturday, the programme is spread across several spaces. The Centro Cultural Paco de Lucía hosts the play Menina. Soy una puta obra de Velázquez, while the Centro Cultural Fernando Lázaro Carreter presents a proposal inspired by Ramón María del Valle-Inclán. Recitals and performances at other centres in the south of the city are also included.
On Sunday, the festival bids farewell with Adolescencia Infinita in the Paco de Lucía auditorium, a piece combining humour, memory and live music.
All activities have free admission until capacity is reached, making the proposal an accessible option for those seeking cultural plans without leaving their surroundings.
