Female motorcyclist seriously injured after colliding with a car on the M-45
A 39-year-old female motorcyclist was seriously injured on Wednesday after colliding with a car on the M-45 near Leganés. The accident required emergency services to be mobilised and affected traffic on one of the most used roads in southern Madrid.
The accident occurred shortly before three in the afternoon, at kilometre 3.400 of the M-45. The collision between the motorcycle and the car left the rider lying on the carriageway with serious injuries, while the health and security operation was activated in the area.
Summa 112 health workers treated the woman at the scene of the accident. She had multiple injuries and had to be stabilised before being transferred by medical helicopter to Hospital 12 de Octubre, where she was admitted in a serious condition.
The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation to clarify how the crash occurred. For the time being, the exact causes of the accident have not emerged, nor whether other factors were involved, such as a sudden manoeuvre, a distraction or traffic density.
The incident also affected mobility. The M-45 is a key route for journeys between municipalities in the south and east of the Comunidad de Madrid, and any accident in its lanes can quickly cause tailbacks, especially at times of heavy traffic.
The Leganés section carries a high volume of vehicles every day, both drivers travelling between municipalities and those connecting with other access routes to the capital. In that setting, motorcycles, cars and heavy vehicles share fast-moving traffic that leaves little room to react to any unforeseen event.
The accident once again highlights the vulnerability of motorcyclists on major metropolitan roads. Even with a helmet and appropriate equipment, a collision with a passenger car can have far more serious consequences for someone travelling on two wheels.
For drivers, the episode is a reminder of the importance of keeping distance, checking blind spots carefully and avoiding sudden lane changes. On roads such as the M-45, where many journeys seem routine, one second of inattention can completely alter an ordinary afternoon of traffic.
The investigation will now determine exactly what happened, but the warning for those who use the access routes to Madrid every day is clear. Speed, vehicle density and the coexistence of cars and motorcycles make these roads places where caution is not a secondary recommendation, but a basic condition for reaching one's destination.
