A mural in Fuenlabrada celebrates ‘Acero’ and the local market garden
Fuenlabrada is adding a new symbol to its urban landscape. Calle Madrid now features a mural paying tribute to Benito Celestino Montero and the local agricultural tradition, in an intervention that reinforces the municipality’s identity.
The work, entitled ‘Manos de Acero’ and signed by Christian Sasa, stands opposite the Centro de Mayores Ferrer i Guardia. The mural portrays ‘Acero’, a farmer born in 1932, and highlights his connection with the land and his role in the recent history of market gardening in Fuenlabrada.
The piece is not limited to the portrait. It also highlights Fuenlabrada chard, one of the area’s most representative products. Its presence in the mural reinforces the importance of agriculture in the local identity and connects past and present on the same plane.
The project is part of the Museo de Arte Urbano de Fuenlabrada, which turns streets and façades into accessible cultural spaces. Each intervention expands a route that invites visitors to discover the city from another perspective.
Beyond the artistic gesture, the mural acts as public recognition of those who have sustained agricultural activity in the municipality for decades. It also adds a new point of interest for those strolling through the area and looking for different plans in southern Madrid.
Fuenlabrada thus reinforces its commitment to urban art as a tool for telling its own story. Between memory, identity and everyday life, the neighbourhood gains a new narrative that becomes part of its daily life.
