An interactive mural in Moratalaz competes to be the world's best in 2025

A 180 m² mural in Moratalaz is surprising the world. The work, created by Leyre Pérez Velasco, comes to life through augmented reality. It has been nominated for best mural worldwide. The public can vote until 31 January 2026. Find out how to take part and why it is unique.

A 180-square-metre mural at CEIP Regimiento Inmemorial del Rey, at 51 Avenida de Moratalaz, has put this Madrid school on the international urban art map. The work, titled Persigue tu estrella and created by young artist Leyre Pérez Velasco, has been selected among the candidates for the world’s best mural of 2025 by the Street Art Cities platform.

The mural stands out for its striking colour palette and the presence of a three-storey-tall lynx and a butterfly, which come to life thanks to augmented reality developed by Ricardo Rolland, a specialist in 3D art for video games. This fusion of art and technology turns the school wall into a unique interactive experience.

The initiative forms part of the Muraltalaz project, promoted by the Junta Municipal de Moratalaz to enrich the district’s cultural offering. The work now aspires to go from being a local symbol to becoming a global benchmark if it succeeds in winning the international vote.

Voting for the world’s best mural of 2025 is open to the public until 15:00 on 31 January 2026. Anyone can vote for their favourite on the official Street Art Cities website, where the Madrid piece is competing with works from countries including Belgium, Serbia, Brazil, Mexico and Italy.
