A mural and an immersive experience transform the Barcelona Metro for 8M

Barcelona's metro surprises with art and technology for 8M. A mural with an assertive message and an interactive installation can now be seen at key stations. The initiative seeks to make diversity and women's role in the city visible.

Those travelling through Barcelona's metro these days encounter an artistic proposal that does not go unnoticed. Coinciding with 8M, the transport network has incorporated interventions that invite reflection on equality and freedom in the city's everyday spaces.

At the plaça Espanya interchange, a mural by Valery Blanchard occupies the corridor connecting the L1 and L3 lines. The work reproduces an emblematic phrase by Rosa Luxemburg, chosen by the staff of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) after an internal vote. The message, visible since 3 March, has also been taken to the company's workplaces, reinforcing its presence in the daily lives of those who are part of the metro.

Passeig de Gràcia station, for its part, premieres ARS Gràcia, an interactive experience that turns the journey into a sensory experience. Lights and melodies, inspired by musicologist Susan McClary and composer Eliane Radigue, accompany users as they listen to voices of women artists linked to the Associació de Músics de Carrer i del Metro de Barcelona (AMUC BCN). The proposal seeks to surprise and create an emotional connection with those who pass through this nerve centre of Barcelona transport.

8M has become a key date for the city, which each year adds new ways of making the struggle for equality visible. These interventions in the metro not only beautify the surroundings, but also generate conversation and awareness in one of Barcelona's busiest spaces.
