A new 250 m² space opens in Poble-sec with free art and performances
Barcelona’s contemporary art map will add a new space next 15 September. Homesession will open premises at number 24 Lafont street, in Poble-sec, with more than 250 square metres for exhibitions, artist residencies, research and public activities.
The move represents a considerable change for a project founded in the neighbourhood itself in 2007. Homesession began by hosting artists in a home and, since 2012, had operated from a small premises of around 50 square metres on Creu dels Molers. The new headquarters multiplies that area by approximately five and makes it possible to separate work, exhibition and management spaces more effectively.
The opening will be on Tuesday 15 September, from 17:00 to 21:00, with free admission. That day will see the opening of Es allí adonde voy. Ecos de aquello que fue y no volvió, a group exhibition that brings back works, projects and artists connected with Homesession throughout its almost two decades of activity.
It is not conceived as a conventional retrospective. The exhibition takes a story by Clarice Lispector as its point of reference and brings together works by Carolina Cordeiro, Chadine Amghar, Daniel de la Barra, Daniela Ortiz y Xosé Quiroga, Fermín Jiménez Landa, Helena Laguna, Laura Llaneli, Paul Maheke, Rio Paraná and other creators who have passed through the project. It will remain open until 13 November.
The first afternoon will also include a live performance. At 19:00, Delphine Pouillé will present the performance Walk #3. The programme will continue on 28 October with another performance by Mai Bach-Ngoc Nguyen as part of the ARTefACTe festival and will culminate on 13 November with several live actions coinciding with the closing of the exhibition.
The new premises also change what Homesession can do when there is no exhibition open. The organisation works with residencies for local and international artists, production grants, community projects and educational programmes. The increased space will make it possible to provide dedicated workspaces for those undertaking a residency and to expand public activity.
The refurbishment of the headquarters was developed by Íñigo Gómez, from the 5LAB studio. The project uses exposed materials and reuse strategies to create connected exhibition, work and office areas without turning the space into a conventional gallery.
For anyone wishing to see it from the first day, the address to save is Lafont, 24, a few minutes from Avenida del Paral·lel. The 15 September opening will be free and the first exhibition can be visited until 13 November, usually from Wednesday to Friday afternoons.
