A new mega-car park at Atocha will transform mobility in the centre

Central Madrid is adding a new modular car park next to Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes station, with more than 1,200 spaces that will ease traffic pressure in this key area and make arriving or leaving by train easier, especially at peak times and weekends. The project adds 1,283 spaces in total: P3A (already partially operational) offers four levels and 493 spaces (42 adapted for people with reduced mobility), while P3B will add 790 spaces across three floors plus an outdoor area. Its dismantlable and reusable design, with a prefabricated metal structure, makes it possible to relocate it in the future if the station’s needs change, without major works or long-lasting disruptions. In sustainability terms, it stands out for solar panels on the roofs that supply 60 charging points for electric vehicles and support self-consumption, together with upgrades to drainage, lighting, telecommunications and efficiency measures aligned with the SDGs. Access will be smooth thanks to four main entrances and exits, two of them connected directly to the access ramp.

Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes is much more than a station: it is one of Madrid’s major meeting and transit points, where travellers, local residents and those who work in the area converge. Its transformation in recent years reflects the city’s commitment to more orderly and sustainable mobility.
