An exhibition that reveals the complexity and diversity of today’s Barcelona

Barcelona hosts an exhibition that explores its urban identity. Laia Bonet and Maria Buhigas present the exhibition at the Casa de l’Arquitectura de Barcelona. The event is part of the Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture agenda. Discover how the city is interpreted from new perspectives.

The city of Barcelona becomes the epicentre of urban debate with the opening of the exhibition “Barcelona = (Diversitat + Intensitat) x Complexitat”. This event, held at the Casa de l’Arquitectura de Barcelona, invites Barcelona residents to look at their everyday surroundings from unexpected angles and reflect on how diversity, intensity and complexity define life in the Catalan capital.

The presentation, scheduled for Wednesday 11 March at 10.00 at the former headquarters of Editorial Gustavo Gili, will include the participation of Laia Bonet, first deputy mayor, and Maria Buhigas, the City Council's chief architect. Both figures underline the importance of rethinking the city within the framework of Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture, a key year for local urban planning.

The curatorial team, made up of Andreu Domingo, Eulàlia Gómez, Francesc Muñoz and Pau de Solà-Morales, has designed a route that breaks Barcelona down into three fundamental axes. Diversity reveals who inhabits the city and how different realities coexist. Intensity focuses on close relationships and community life, while complexity makes it possible to understand the constant connections and transformations that characterise a living city.

After the opening speeches, attendees will be able to immerse themselves in a guided tour led by the curatorial team itself. The exhibition, with graphic and exhibition design by Domestic Data Streamers, is presented as an invitation to discover what it means to be a city in the 21st century, using Barcelona as a prototype and laboratory for urban ideas.

The Casa de l’Arquitectura de Barcelona, located in the heart of the Eixample, has established itself in recent years as a benchmark space for urban thought and architectural outreach in Barcelona. Its regular programme combines exhibitions, debates and activities that bring architecture closer to the public, encouraging dialogue about the challenges and opportunities facing a city in constant transformation.
