Bomb threat on Cercanías Madrid forces train evacuation in Pozuelo and disrupts rush hour
Monday morning began with tension in Madrid for those who relied on Cercanías Madrid. A train on the C-8 line was evacuated at El Barrial station in Pozuelo de Alarcón after a bomb threat that proved false, disrupting mobility in the middle of rush hour.
The incident occurred shortly before eight in the morning, when a 41-year-old man told several passengers that he was carrying an explosive device. The train, which had left Las Matas, stopped immediately and staff asked travellers to leave it for safety reasons. Many went directly onto the tracks, amid uncertainty.
The Policía Nacional intervened quickly. Officers, together with the Unidad Canina and Samur-Protección Civil personnel, searched the train and checked the suspect’s bag. No explosive was found and the man was arrested for an alleged offence of making threats.
Service resumed at 8:35, although there were delays until the usual frequency was restored. Cercanías Madrid informed users about the incident and apologised for the inconvenience, while normality gradually returned to the network.
