A feline birthday party saves a shelter in Texas

Miranda González, a Houston resident, threw a spectacular party to celebrate her cat Holly Marie’s 15th birthday… and ended up saving a local animal shelter from bankruptcy.

The celebration, which Miranda planned for more than a year, spared no detail: Holly Marie appeared in a glittering cape and crown, arrived at the party aboard a white mini Bentley and was honoured with mariachi music, a themed cake and a house decorated with photos of her. Friends and family took part as the event’s “godparents”, helping with the organisation and costs.

But the purpose went beyond celebration. Miranda wanted to use the occasion to support the Almost Home Cat Haven shelter, which was in a critical financial situation. Videos of the birthday, published on social media, went viral and sparked a wave of donations.

Thanks to this original initiative, the shelter received a vital boost. “It was our lifeline,” its director confessed. Holly Marie did not only celebrate her 15th birthday… she also became a feline heroine.
