Delicias opens a plant nursery for people going on holiday
Going on holiday in Madrid poses a small problem for people who live surrounded by plants: what to do with them when the heat intensifies and the house is empty. This summer, the Delicias neighbourhood unveils a simple, very local answer: a plant nursery at Espacio Gradas.
The initiative is promoted by Infinito Delicias and will begin on Wednesday 10 June 2026 at 18:30. It will operate every Wednesday afternoon in June and July, so that local residents can bring their plants before going away for a few days or resolve questions about how to care for them during the summer.
The service is intended for people who do not have anyone nearby who can water, air or keep an eye on their pots while they are away. Instead of leaving plants to their fate in a closed, hot flat, they will be able to leave them in a cooler space with company.
The proposal is not limited to storing pots. Espacio Gradas will also offer advice, care tips and a meeting point for sharing questions about watering, light, heat or repotting. The idea fits well in a city where more and more people fill balconies, windows and living rooms with plants, but do not always know how to keep them alive in August.
During the summer, Infinito Delicias will also operate as a climate refuge. The space will be open for those seeking somewhere to read, work, rest for a while or escape the heat without leaving the neighbourhood. The small botanical library adds a calm touch to the proposal.
The nursery will be available until Saturday 12 September, when a farewell breakfast will be held for those who have taken part. The final collection time will be announced later, but the initiative already makes it possible to plan holidays with a little less improvisation.
Espacio Gradas is located at calle de Doña Juana, 5, in an area of Delicias where neighbourhood and cultural activities have been gaining importance. With this proposal, plant care also becomes a form of community: someone goes away, another space looks after them, and the neighbourhood keeps functioning in the height of summer.
The plant nursery solves a small but very real concern. It does not change the holiday, but it can prevent people from returning home to find dry pots, fallen leaves and the feeling that summer also took its toll on the living room.
