Cercedilla pensioner reports debt of more than 10,000 euros over unpaid rent
The owner of a home in Cercedilla has reported that, after 16 months of unpaid rent and utilities, the debt on her flat exceeds 10,000 euros and the case has gone to court.
María José, a Madrid resident, has reported a significant accumulated debt after the tenants of her house in Cercedilla stopped paying.
According to the owner, the property was rented under an official contract. At first, rent was paid regularly, but payments later stopped. She currently states that rent and utilities have gone unpaid for 16 months. The total debt exceeds 10,000 euros.
A family with a minor child lives in the property. Due to accumulated expenses, including the mortgage and electricity and water bills, the owner is forced to assume all payments. She told her situation on the Buenos días Madrid programme, on the Telemadrid channel.
María José also reports damage to the property and notes that the case is in judicial proceedings. She has filed a claim and is awaiting a ruling, although the process is dragging on. The city council’s social services advised her to resolve the matter through the courts.
