A red Moon will paint the Spanish sky in a unique total eclipse
This Sunday, 7 September, the sky will give almost all of Spain an unforgettable spectacle: a total lunar eclipse which will also coincide with a ‘perigee moon’ (supermoon), slightly larger and closer than usual.
The phenomenon will begin at 19:31, mainland time, when the Earth’s shadow completely covers the Moon, turning it its characteristic reddish hue until 20:53. In cities such as Madrid, the Moon will rise already eclipsed at 20:35, while in western Galicia and the Canary Islands only the partial phase will be visible.
Best of all: no special equipment is needed. Simply look at the sky, although binoculars or telescopes can improve the experience. Not even light pollution will spoil the moment: the “blood moon” will be visible even from brightly lit cities.
The date with the cosmos is set. All that remains is to wait for the Earth, the Sun and the Moon to align and offer a magical night.
