Police save a woman after she chokes in a Madrid restaurant
A meal in central Madrid was close to ending in tragedy after a woman choked. The swift intervention of National Police officers cleared her airways in seconds and prevented serious consequences at a critical moment.
The incident occurred when a restaurant employee alerted the police officers who were nearby. On arrival, the officers found the woman semi-conscious, unable to breathe and showing clear signs of choking, which required immediate action.
With no time to wait, they performed the Heimlich manoeuvre along with back blows. The intervention was effective: the woman managed to expel the object blocking her airways and resumed breathing before the situation worsened.
The case highlights the importance of knowing how to react within seconds. In places with high footfall, such as restaurants or bars, situations of this kind can arise unexpectedly and require a rapid, coordinated response.
In recent years, more and more establishments in Madrid have begun training their staff in basic emergency techniques. Although it is not compulsory, the trend points towards strengthening preparedness for everyday incidents that can escalate quickly.
Knowing how to act when someone is choking can make the difference between a scare and a serious emergency. For those who go out to eat or work in hospitality, having basic first-aid knowledge becomes a key tool in daily life.
