La Rambla will require unified terraces in Barcelona with shared furniture and no advertising

Those walking along La Rambla in the coming months will notice a radical change in the appearance of its terraces. Barcelona City Council has decided to establish a style catalogue that will require every restaurant and bar on the emblematic avenue to unify the image of its outdoor spaces.

The measure means that parasols, tables and chairs must follow specific design and colour guidelines. For example, parasols will have to be cream-coloured and maintain a standard height, while the furniture will use previously selected models and tones. The aim is to create a coherent, elegant aesthetic that distinguishes La Rambla as an area of excellence in the city.

In addition, the new regulations expressly prohibit placing advertising on any terrace element, from chalkboards to the furniture itself. This decision seeks to eliminate visual saturation and improve the experience for both residents and tourists, opting for a more carefully designed and uniform image.

La Rambla, one of Barcelona’s most iconic promenades, has traditionally been a meeting point for locals and visitors.
