Valdebebas prepares Madrid’s largest shopping centre: a city within the city
An unprecedented project is under way in northern Madrid. Valdebebas will become the new epicentre of shopping and leisure with the construction of a shopping centre that will break every record in the capital.
Although it still has no official opening date, the complex named Valdebebas Shopping is being built on an area of 400,000 square metres, with space for more than 280 shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. This places it as the largest in Madrid and one of the most ambitious in all of Spain. The design favours open-air spaces, fountains and green areas, moving away from the traditional enclosed mall format. The project is driven by General de Galerías Comerciales, the group behind centres such as Nevada Shopping, and seeks to create an environment that combines shopping, strolling and experience. Located next to strategic points such as IFEMA, Barajas airport and Hospital Isabel Zendal, Valdebebas Shopping aims to be not only a shopping centre, but a new urban meeting point. Despite the uncertain timetable, its scale already promises to change the landscape of northern Madrid.
