Vallecas celebrates its Fiestas del Carmen with concerts and the Naval Battle
Vallecas once again takes centre stage in Madrid’s calendar with the Fiestas del Carmen. Until 19 July, the neighbourhood combines free concerts, family activities, stalls, attractions and one of its most eagerly awaited events: the Naval Battle, which reaches its 44th edition this year.
The centre of the celebration will be at the fairground on Payaso Fofó Street, alongside other neighbourhood locations such as Plaza Padre Llanos, Avenida de la Albufera, the Peña Gorbea boulevard and Mirador del Cerro del Tío Pío. The festivities are thus spread across spaces for neighbours to meet, thoroughfares and open-air stages.
The music programme features names recognised by several generations. Ramoncín, Jaime Urrutia, Santiago Auserón and Banda del Capitán Inhumano are part of a free line-up that also includes tributes to Leño and Tina Turner, DJ sets and orchestras to keep the night going.
This Tuesday, Plaza Padre Llanos hosts Javi Cantero, “Hijo del Fary”, in concert at 22:00. Wednesday will see the official opening, with the Vallecas Band of Music, Álvaro Casares’s opening address and the chupinazo at Avenida de la Albufera.
Thursday the 16th will be marked by Mass and a procession in honour of Virgen del Carmen at Parroquia San Ramón Nonato. At night, the fairground will regain its festive pulse with entertainment, a DJ and Ramoncín’s concert at 22:30.
Friday the 17th will feature one of its most family-friendly moments, with the Foam Party alongside firefighters, as well as children’s shows and circus. Music will follow with Jaime Urrutia and a Tina Turner tribute after midnight.
On Saturday the 18th, Colla Castellera de Madrid will perform in the afternoon, before the street processions, the DJ set and the concert by Santiago Auserón and La Academia Nocturna. The day will close with Orquesta Bravalia, keeping the atmosphere going until dawn.
Sunday the 19th will be the big day for the Batalla Naval, which will fill the Peña Gorbea boulevard with water and festive assertion from 16:30. This will be followed by the Leño tribute, Banda del Capitán Inhumano and fireworks at Mirador del Cerro del Tío Pío, an ending that sums up the spirit of Vallecas well: neighbourhood, music, street life and shared celebration.
