Vamos Rural: the platform that connects tourists with local residents and keeps money in the community
Vamos Rural is gaining traction in Spain as a digital platform that offers rural tourism without intermediaries, directly benefiting local residents.
Launched in 2022, the platform connects travellers with local hosts—artisans, farmers, and guides—eliminating excessive commissions and promoting a fair economy, where most of the income stays in the area.
According to José Manuel Colsa, founder of the project, today’s traveller is looking for more than just a list of services: they value direct contact, the convenience of booking, and knowing their money goes to those who deserve it. That’s why, on Vamos Rural, hosts set their own prices and receive most of the payment directly.
In just two years, the platform has reached nearly one million euros in turnover and operates in Cantabria, Asturias, and the País Vasco. The income is reinvested in families, farms, and small communities, turning tourism into a sustainable source of local income.
Looking ahead, Vamos Rural plans to expand into new regions, while maintaining its core principle: supporting not the flow of tourists, but the people who live and work in the area.
