Ve de Barcelona: a new meeting point for understanding the city through its creators

Barcelona gains a new cultural space with the opening of Ve de Barcelona, the municipal shop that leaves Sala Ciutat behind to set up in the Born – Museu d’Història de Barcelona.

It is not merely a move: the project reinvents itself and broadens its perspective to bring together, in one place, books, objects and proposals that explain the city from within.

The establishment is organised into four clear areas. The first is publishing, with the Barcelona Llibres collection, the City Council’s publishing house, which publishes around fifty titles each year on urban planning, architecture, historical memory, the arts, ecology and visual culture. A way of reading Barcelona beyond the tourist guide.

Design occupies another axis of the space, with pieces created by local studios and authors, selected for their usefulness, quality and local roots. Gastronomy also has its own place: products made by local producers that highlight the diversity and sustainability of the Catalan countryside. The proposal is completed by designer fashion, with garments by emerging designers linked to Barcelona Fashion Forward, the municipal programme supporting new brands.

The shop, curated by the LaCapell cooperative, is located in a history-laden setting such as the former Mercat del Born, reinforcing the link between heritage and contemporary creation. Open from Tuesday to Saturday and on weekends and public holidays, Ve de Barcelona aspires to become a space where the city is not merely visited, but also understood, touched and shared.
