Aluche residents rise up against the senior citizens' centre in the school playground
Tension in Aluche over the construction of a senior citizens' centre in the playground of CEIP Amadeo Vives: residents are mobilising, the City Council is defending the project, and PSOE and Más Madrid support the protest.
The Aluche neighbourhood saw a day of protests this Sunday after the announcement of the construction of a centre for the elderly in the playground of CEIP Amadeo Vives. Neighbourhood and social groups from the Latina district, together with representatives from PSOE and Más Madrid, took to the streets to show their opposition to the project promoted by the Ayuntamiento de Madrid.
The controversy centres on the use of the school's sports court, which, according to the council, is not part of the school either from an urban planning or property perspective. The Ayuntamiento argues that there are unfavourable technical reports supporting its decision.
From the opposition, Rita Maestre has strongly criticised the municipal action, describing the decision as lacking ambition and of low quality. Tension between residents, political parties, and the administration continues to rise in the district.
