Victory in Manchester and quarter-final place for Real Madrid
Real Madrid secured their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating Manchester City 1-2 at the Etihad, completing a convincing 5-1 aggregate win.
The match was shaped from the outset by a penalty converted by Vinícius Jr. and the sending-off of Bernardo Silva, which left City with ten players. Even so, the English team managed to equalise before half-time through a goal by Erling Haaland, keeping the tension high for much of the match.
In the second half, City tried to respond, but Madrid knew how to manage their advantage. In the closing stages, Vinícius appeared again to score the decisive goal and seal the tie.
The white-clad side arrived with an advantage after the 3–0 first-leg result at the Bernabéu, where a Federico Valverde hat-trick had put the tie on track.
This result reinforces Real Madrid’s standing in Europe and consolidates their recent dominance over City in direct knockout ties. For supporters, it means another key night in the season and fuels expectations in the Champions League. With this victory, Real Madrid bring the Champions League back to the Santiago Bernabéu, where the first leg of the quarter-finals will be played on 7 April. Everything points to Bayern Munich being the opponent, in a tie of the highest level.
