Woody Allen will shoot his next film in the centro de Madrid from 5 October
Woody Allen will begin shooting his next film in Madrid on 5 October. The capital will be the main setting for a new contemporary comedy by the New York director, with locations mainly in the centro de Madrid and some days also planned outside the capital.
The cast will be led by Alexi Wasser, Jemima Kirke, Peter Vives, Marton Csokas and Jakob Oftebro. Peter Vives is, for now, the only Spanish actor announced in the main cast.
The final title has not yet been announced, although there is a unique condition: the film must include the word “Madrid” in its title. The project has provisionally appeared in previous documentation as Wasp 2026, but that name will not necessarily be used for its release.
The first public details of the production will be presented on 1 October at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, which will also be one of the locations used during filming. Four days later, shooting will officially begin.
Although the City Council mainly highlights locations in the centre, the production also plans to move to Aranjuez, according to information provided by the distributor Wanda Visión.
Madrid will not just serve as a visual backdrop. The Comunidad and the City Council are participating as institutional sponsors of the film, contributing a total of three million euros, with 1.5 million from each administration, as part of a strategy to promote the city through cinema.
The project is produced by Wanda Visión, Gravier Productions and 3Six9 Studios. Wanda Visión will distribute the film in Spanish cinemas, while its international distribution will be managed by Daresay y WestEnd Films.
This will be Allen’s third feature film set in Spain after Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Rifkin's Festival, although this time Madrid will be at the centre of the story. It will also be his 51st film as screenwriter and director.
The City Council had already announced the project at the end of 2025, but at that time filming was scheduled for spring 2026. The schedule has finally shifted to autumn, and for the first time there is now a specific date: 5 October.
For Madrid residents, the question will be which streets, squares and buildings will end up appearing on screen. The production has only revealed that most of the locations will be in the centre; the full list will be known as filming progresses.
