Supermarkets in Madrid adjust opening hours for Easter Week
Easter Week once again changes supermarket opening hours in Madrid, with differences depending on the chain and location. The Maundy Thursday and Good Friday public holidays make it necessary to plan purchases, especially for those dependent on last-minute shopping.
Mercadona will be the most restrictive: it will open only some stores on Thursday morning and will be completely closed on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, it will return to its usual hours.
In contrast, Carrefour will be more flexible, with most of its stores open on Thursday and Friday with extended hours, and even some open on Sunday in tourist areas or shopping centres.
Lidl and Alcampo will follow a similar approach, opening on public holidays in key locations, while Dia will adapt its service depending on the neighbourhood, maintaining partial activity in some places.
The differences are more pronounced in areas such as Sol, Gran Vía, or the Salamanca neighbourhood, where regulations allow greater flexibility in opening hours and some supermarkets remain open even on public holidays.
Given this situation, it is advisable to check specific opening times before heading out, as they may vary depending on the store.
