Entering Park Güell for free is now easier: all you need is an ID card and proof of residence
Getting around Barcelona is changing little by little, including in its most iconic places. For many residents, entering the city's most famous park is no longer a formality and feels natural again.
Free access to Park Güell is now being simplified by the removal of registration with Gaudir Més. In its place comes the so-called “green pass”: all that is needed is to enter the DNI, name and choose a time slot. The system, connected to the municipal register, automatically validates whether the person is registered as living in the city.
Until now, the process involved several prior steps that many considered impractical. Registration, individual applications and QR codes meant that a visit was not always spontaneous. With the new system, access becomes more direct and quicker, designed for everyday use.
The neighbourhood resident card remains valid for districts such as La Salut and El Carmel, allowing entry without time restrictions. Special access for educational communities is also maintained, with new updates planned for the 2026-2027 academic year. In total, around 180,000 people can benefit from these measures.
For other visitors, the model does not change: paid admission, online only and with prior booking. In addition, the first and last time slots of the day are reserved for residents, reinforcing the park’s local character at quieter times.
This change forms part of a wider strategy driven by the Ajuntament de Barcelona, led by Jaume Collboni. In a context where tourism continues to set the city’s pace, measures such as this seek to restore balance: so that emblematic places such as Park Güell are not only a global destination, but also an everyday space that is accessible and recognisable to those who live in Barcelona.
